Sing, Mothers! Sing!

My favorite quote from Sarah Plain and Tall: Of their prospective step-mother Caleb asks, "Does she sing?" The reply, "Tell Caleb I sing." Singing. Do we recognize this as an essential part of mothering? Caleb didn't ask, "Does she sing WELL?" Only, "Does she sing?" Sing to your children mothers, even during pregnancy, no matter if you are talented or not. With practice you will see improvement, but regardless, to your babes you will sound like an angel.

Awake, awake, child*,
and put on His strength,
then lift up your eyes to the heavens
and sing child, sing
Praise God, our King!

Let thy peace flow as a river
thy righteousness as waves of the sea
Praise the Lord thy Redeemer
Let his Spirit set you free!

With joy wend your way
as you sing everyday,
then lift up your eyes to the heavens
and sing child sing,
break forth and sing,
Praise God our Father, our Savior and King!

(*can be subsituted with mama, children, sister, daughter, son, baby, father, brother.)
Sometimes I sing this song to the children in the morning to wake them up.
Below is my rendition.
