Sing, Mothers! Sing!

My favorite quote from Sarah Plain and Tall: Of their prospective step-mother Caleb asks, "Does she sing?" The reply, "Tell Caleb I sing." Singing. Do we recognize this as an essential part of mothering? Caleb didn't ask, "Does she sing WELL?" Only, "Does she sing?" Sing to your children mothers, even during pregnancy, no matter if you are talented or not. With practice you will see improvement, but regardless, to your babes you will sound like an angel.

It's time to rise,
you've slept all night,
the sun is up and shining bright.

The moon has drifted
off to sleep,
Listen to the birdies singing...

Peep, peep, cheep,
cheep, cheep, peep.
Peepa, cheepa,
cheepa, peepa,
peep, peep, peep.

This song is sung to the tune of the Brahm's lullaby.

Go to sleep,
go to sleep,
go to sleep, my babies.

Close your eyes,
and go to sleep,
and you'll dream sweet dreams.

Mommy loves you,
Daddy loves you,
the whole family loves you.

Go to sleep,
go to sleep,
and you'll dream sweet dreams.

When I first saw you,
I was so young,
a brown haired beauty
just turned 21
at the top-flight ballroom
lookin' for fun
Only God knew we'd end up
with all these daughters and sons

As rain falls on a window,
the years they've rolled on by
so much time has thundered past,
Now I'm looking out this pane of glass
at the life shared by you and I

God/Life has been good to you and me
we've managed to raise our family,
at times our pockets were empty,
but our hearts were always full of love

Yes, God/Life has been good to you and me
we've managed to raise our family,
at times our pockets were empty,
but our hearts were always full of love

All these years have rumbled past
and times weren't always fun,
my brown hair is slowly turning grey
some things I'd do another way
but I wouldn't change our path

'Cause God/Life has been good to you and me
we've managed to raise our family,
at times our pockets were empty,
but our hearts were always full of love

Verse 1
Dear child, with in me, the Lord who created you,
Will guide you to safety when water you pass through.

Jesus is our Deliverer, Let us not fear,
Our work, performed together, remember He’s always near.

Verse 2
Dear child we’re blessed, as stewards we are new,
We hope to pass the test, of loving and teaching you.

To you our first example of faith in the Lord,
Our birth will be a sample of trusting in His Word

Verse 3
Dear child, we’re eager, our journey to complete,
From realms of our Father, awaiting you to greet.

The night of your birth, filled with joy and love,
In peace as you nurse, we’ll sing praise to God above.

Chorus
Deliverance is the promise, if His name we take upon,
Honor and glory are His, Israel’s Holy One.

O, my little ones, it's time
to rest in your beds
O, my little ones, it's time
to rest your sweet heads.

Angels will watch over you
while you are sleeping
In peace you can slumber
without any weeping.

God loves little children
He said,'' Let them come unto me.''
God loves little children
by his side He wants you to be.

Blessed are you my children,
so good, honest and true
I love you my children,
and God loves you, too.

This cool, young chic named Daniela (whom I found on youtube) sang this song for me!!! Yay! I am so thrilled, she did an awesome job and I am so grateful. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!!

Awake, awake, child*,
and put on His strength,
then lift up your eyes to the heavens
and sing child, sing
Praise God, our King!

Let thy peace flow as a river
thy righteousness as waves of the sea
Praise the Lord thy Redeemer
Let his Spirit set you free!

With joy wend your way
as you sing everyday,
then lift up your eyes to the heavens
and sing child sing,
break forth and sing,
Praise God our Father, our Savior and King!

(*can be subsituted with momma, children, sister, daughter, son, baby, father, brother.)
Sometimes I sing this song to the children in the morning to wake them up.
Below is my rendition.

Verse

Do you remember that night
so long ago,
I could never forget it,
oh, no

We were watching TV,
an old black and white movie
Sitting hand in hand
I looked into your eyes
the feeling was soo intense
Then it all made sense
I knew you were the man for me

Chorus

Now all these years have gone by
and many times we've made each other cry
But some how, our love has grown,
our love has grown, our love has grown
Some how our love has grown

I thank God that you're in my life
all these years I've been your wife
Once all these kids are on their own (have grown),
we'll have some time alone
and I'll say:

Verse

How fast these years,
they've come and gone,
I will never forget 'em
oh, no

At times its been like TV
or 'n old black and white movie
walking hand in hand,
I look into your eyes,
the feelings are still intense
it just makes sense
there's no other man for me

Chorus

I thank God, we'll have

more than this life,
in heaven I'll still be your wife
we'll take this love of ours home
Yes, I've always known,
that you, you are the man for me

Verse
Sweet, sweet, baby of mine
Hush precious baby
There's no need to whine
You're precious, so precious
Such a precious gift from God above
Given for me and your sweet daddy to love

Chorus
Baby, my baby
You are God's miracle, Life's pinnacle
There is no luxury, that compares to thee
Verse
Baby, my baby
You mean much more to me
So much more to me
Than a diamond ring
white pearls on a string
Designer clothes
Painted toes
An SUV or a plasma TV

Chorus
Baby, my baby
You are my luxury,
my luxury
and I'd give up all I own
just to hold you tight

Verse
Baby, my baby
You are more lovely, so much more lovely
Than a soft sea breeze
Autumn leaves leaves on the trees,
A waterfall,
A birds love call
A horse on the run or a setting sun
Chorus
Baby, my baby
You're precious
So precious, Baby

Verse
Anguish had taken hold of me
Rivers of water ran down my eyes
The world weighed me down
and I nearly drowned
in the river of tears swellin’ round me

Chorus
So I cried unto Him,
How I cried unto Him,
Save me Lord,

O, merciful Lord,
Please, Deliver me!

I was down on the floor
knocking at His door,
My tears did dry
when he answered my cry
On eagles wings my soul did soar
when I heard the words,
O, my daughter,
Weep, no more!

Verse
I’d been fed with the bread of adversity
In the midst of choking on all the strife
I turned to him to preserve my life

Chorus
I cried unto Him,
How I cried unto Him,
Hear me Lord,
O, merciful Lord,
Please, Deliver me!

I was down on the floor
knocking at His door
He was gracious
and answered my cry
on eagles wings my soul did fly
It flew high in the sky
and I did weep, no more!
Yes, I did weep no more!

All Hail the Babe Called Jesus

Since that prophetic day of old
the angel’s words have oft been told:

Unto you I bring good tidings of joy,
unto you this day is born a boy.

In a stable born of simple birth,
He was born to bring peace to earth.

His mother Mary had traveled for days,
When her babe came forth she sang God’s praise.

Her faith had earned her great reward,
she brought forth the Savior, our Lord.

Let us praise the Holy One, born far away in Bethlehem.
Let us praise the Prince of Life, who tasted death for every man.

All hail the babe called Jesus,
Son of the Highest,
whose kingdom shall never end.

Alleluia, Alleluia,
Praise ye the Lord.

Alleluia, Alleluia,
Praise ye the Lord.

They say its darkest before the dawn
I know that Jesus will lighten this darkness

By His light,
His marvelous light
He’ll guide my way to a brand new day,
a brand new day

The Light of the World is His name,
The powers of darkness He overcame
It was His plan to overcome
all the evil that had been done

Christ was tried, truly tried,
before he died we’re told he cried,
O, my Father, if it can be
let this cup pass from me
But not my will, no not my will,
not my will,
but Thine be done,
Thy will be done

The Light of the World is His name,
The powers of darkness He overcame
Through obedience He overcame
By His grace I’ll do the same
I’ll do the same

By His light,
His marvelous light
He’ll guide my way to a brand new day
a brand new day

Brooke White & "Fun In A Bottle" ©2005 Susan Fierro-Baig

To my friends who are American Idol fans (and others),

Can you believe that I watched American Idol tonight for the first time and I about fell out of my seat! Here's why:

A few years ago I tried my hand at lyric writing and I created several songs. One was about my dad who was killed by a drunk driver on New Year's Eve. I took it to a gal from my church named Brooke White. Brooke is a professional singer and she agreed to give me feedback and some pointers. At the end of our first meeting she said that she thought the song was really good and that it could "go somewhere."

My dream with this song is to have it recorded and used by M.A.D.D for the presentations that they do in schools. I would love to see my song used to help stop drunk driving. I don't care if I never made a dime off the song, I would love to see it utilized somehow. That's one of my major dreams in life.

Imagine my sursprise when I happened to see Brooke performing on American Idol as one of the finalists! I hope she wins as she is very talented and very genuinely nice and generous. She spent about 3-4 hours with me developing my song for free.

When we first met I played my rendition of my song for her that I had taped on my hand held tape recorder (which was EMBARASSING 'cause I sing so bad.) Well, she said, "What you need is help with the melody." And she picked up her guitar and started playing/singing my song and it was incredible to hear it sung so well!!!!

I recorded her singing it with my hand held tape recorder. She said then, that I could never put the recording on the internet or distribute it because of her contracts. (I wish that I could share it as I want to get the message out about drunk driving and her name recognition would sure help reach young people!!)

In the back of mind I wonder if she'd ever help me get it recorded, (God willing it will get recorded somehow).....

Anyway, another "cool" thing is she gave me a copy of the cd that she had just finished recording at the time. My daughter lamented that I didn't have Brooke sign it!:) I bet she'll have no problem selling her cd now!!!

It is unfortunate that Brooke's grandfather was also killed by a drunk driver. Check out my DUI Victim's Voice website dedicated to giving victims of drunk driving a voice.

Watch Brooke's awesome performance of John Lennon's "Let It Be."

The lyrics to the song that Brooke sang for me:

Fun In A Bottle
By Susana Fierro-Baig
Copyright 2005

It was 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day in ’75,
My young love died,
My Jimmy died.

When a drunk man went out for a ride,
That’s the night that I cried,
When my Jimmy died,
I lost my love in ’75.

Some people think they need a drink
To have a good time.
So they test their luck and spend a buck,
On an innocent life.

But fun is no fun,
It’s just a lot of misery.

When their foot hits the throttle,
Fun in a bottle aint no fun at all.
‘Cuz it’s the end of a life, for a beloved husband and wife,
And that’s, that’s no fun.

My love, let’s go back just 10 minutes before,
I won’t let you through the door.
No, Jimmy, don’t go out that door.
‘Cuz if you do, you’re not coming back my love.
So stay with me,
Just stay with me.

God, why do people think they need a drink
To have a good time?
They test their luck and spend a buck,
On an innocent life.

Fun is no fun.
Just a lot of misery

When their foot hits the throttle
Fun in a bottle aint no fun at all.
‘Cuz it’s a son and a daughter, left alone without a father,
And that’s, that’s no fun.

Jimmy when you lost your life,
I lost my life too.
Our hearts were shattered,
Our dreams didn’t matter,
When death tolled for you.

Fun is no fun,
Just a lot of misery.

When his foot hits the throttle
Fun in a bottle aint no fun at all.
Now he’s gone, for a time
But there’s still eternal life,
And that’s, that’s my prayer.

In ’75 my young love died,
That’s the night that I cried
When my Jimmy died.
I can’t wait to see him on the other side,
On life’s other side,
I’ll be by his side,
By his side.

I recently asked a singer name Sarah to record her rendition of my song for YouTube and she did! Sept. 2008

I thought you might enjoy hearing it.

Please help me promote this video by taking a moment to DIGG this video if you are on Digg. You can also visit my new blog as well as the new store that I just set up. At the DUI Victims Voice store I am selling t-shirts at cost so that people can share the anti-drunk driving message.
